The keepers of Ausangate
Two alpaca herders sit together, sewing wares at the base of Peru’s most sacred mountain—the father of all mountains—where the Andean life force is believed to have descended. They know the land intimately, reading weather and seasons to keep their herds safe. They trace grazing paths along narrow rivers to distant lakes. Constant observers of the life force flowing from the mountain, they are the ones who hold its sacredness closest.
