What is the Spoils Trophy?

The Spoils Trophy is an annual photography competition celebrating creative excellence in photography worldwide. Its mission is to discover and showcase groundbreaking talent - giving both emerging and established photographers the opportunity to gain exposure, elevate their work, and receive global visibility.

What prizes will be awarded to the winners?

A total of $30,000 in cash prizes will be awarded across six categories, with each category recognizing three winners: $3,000 for 1st place, $1,500 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place.

What are the categories?

Participants can submit their work in one of six categories - Speed, Waves, Leisure, People, Adventure, and Wildcard. Each submission should align with the chosen category’s theme, and we’ll provide clear guidance to help entrants interpret and follow these themes accurately. Entries that do not reflect the intended theme may have a reduced chance of being selected or winning.

When does the competition take place?

Entries open January 15, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST and close March 14, 2026. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM PST on that date. Late submissions will not be accepted, so please ensure your entries are submitted on time.

When are winners announced?

Winners will be announced within 30 days after the submission deadline and notified by email.

What are the rules for the photography competition?

The photography competition rules require that all entries must be original works taken by the participant. Each participant may submit up to 10 entries per category, with a maximum of 60 total entries per person. The images must be in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format and should not exceed 10MB in size. Additionally, all entries must be with no borders, signatures, watermarks, or AI-generated artwork.

Who can participate?

The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers around the world and to U.S. residents aged 18 or older (except residents of Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, North Dakota, and Illinois).

How are winners selected?

Judges will evaluate the photographs based storytelling, technical skills, composition, and creativity. Each criterion will be scored on a scale of 1 to 10, and the total score will determine the winners. The judges' decisions are final.
